Wimbourne Town 4 Leamington 0
Brakes' new boys got a baptism of fire on Saturday as the team were thrashed 4-0 in a friendly at Wessex League side Wimborne Town.
Regulars Jamie Towers, Martin Heir, Liam Reynolds and Mark Bellingham were all missing from the line-up, following defeat in the previous match at Stratford, and a much-changed Leamington side travelled to Dorset.
Triallist Sean Brown, former Solihull player Carl Fellows, Warwickshire Academy's Sam Monocherry and George Curry, formerly of Racing Club Warwick's first team, featured in the game.
But it was asking a lot to field the new players against a good Wimborne side that had had seen off BG Premier Bashley 4-2 in their last friendly.
Influential Leamington midfielder Steve Palmer went off because of a knee injury and it was downhill from there for the visitors.
It took just six minutes for the home side to go ahead when Dan Gibbons cut into the penalty area before firing past Richard Morris.
Brakes survived another scare on 28 minutes when Wimborne defender Tom Hall headed just wide from a set piece.
In the second half Kevin James bent a shot round stand-in captain Adam Cooper and past Morris to double Wimborne's lead.
Goalkeeper Dean Pennells, who ahs been training with Leamington for several months, finally got his chance when he replaced Morris after an hour.
Despite looking assured he had no chance on 75 minutes when a shot from Scott Joyce hit the bar and appeared to bounce away, but the referee awarded the goal.
And the fourth goal in the final minute was even more freakish as a long punt from Wimborne keeper Dan Ackerman bounced over Pennells' head.
Chances were rare for Brakes and they did not look like scoring in the second half.
This put pressure on the defence too often and some of the players' frustrations with the referee led to yellow cards for Stacey, Fellows and Titterton and to make matters worse Ryan Parisi was sent off in the last minute.
Despite the result, manager Jason Cadden was not downbeat after the match.
He said: "It was a good work-out and I am not too worried by the result.
"We still have two matches to go and plenty of time to get back on track.
"Their first goal was off-side and the third didn't cross the line, so the result was a bit flattering."
Cadden admitted that Brakes are still "a couple of players short" at present but said he was "happy with the signings" he has made in what has been a difficult market this summer.
He added: "Thankfully, Stuart Herlihy is on the mend after his operation and we still have one or two players who may come in, so we should be in good shape for the real thing on August 16."
