Leamington and Tamworth served up an identical scoreline to the pre-season game 12 months previously, and once again it was the Blue Square Bet Premier side that emerged 3-2 victors, writes Paul Edwards.
A lively opening saw Tamworth twice test Tony Breeden before Leamington settled.

A Peter Faulds cross just eluded Matt Lewis, who also saw a clever back-heel scrambled away by a combination of the goalkeeper and a defender.

Leamington-born mi
dfielder Danny Thomas almost gave Tamworth the lead but his cross-shot bounced away to safety after hitting the inside of the post.

Several of the home side's forays were breaking down in the final third, and it was from one such move that Tamworth went in front close to half-time.

Despite the ball out to Thomas on the left looking to have crossed the touchline, play continued, and the cross found its way out to the former Bournemouth and Coventy midfielder Claus Jorgensen, who sent a powerful low drive past Breeden into the corner.

Half-time bought the inevitable raft of substitutions from both sides and replacement keeper Richard Morris was soon picking the ball out of the net after being deceived by a James Reid shot.

Matt Lewis spurned a chance to drag his side back into the game when he smashed a powerful volley inches wides and Tamworth went 3-0 up when Aaron Farrell pounced on an under-hit back-pass to slip the ball past Morris.

Leamington began to create a few half-chances as they looked to take something from the game, the best of which came from latecomer James Husband, who controlled a clearance from Daly and neatly sidestepped a challenge before firing wide.

Trialist Darren Stapleton fired a free-kick over the bar and Guy Sanders also tried his luck from 30 yards, curling the ball straight at the keeper.

With five minutes remaining, referee Mike Bingham awarded Leamington a penalty after Husband was tugged back as he tried to make inroads into the area.

Craig Wilding stepped up to confidently smash home the spot kick.

Husband was involved again as the game entered its final throes, seeing a shot blocked before lifting the ball to the far post, where Luke Corbett showed a deft touch to keep the ball in play and guide it into the net in one movement.
