Luke Corbett came off the bench to score a last-minute goal and earn Brakes a place in round three of the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday.
Only Stuart Herlihy and Josh Blake, who captained the side, had started Saturday's Southern League game at Soham.
They were the better team throughout, but needed substitute Corbett to plundert the only goal of the game in the last minute to avoid extra time against the Midland Alliance underdogs.
The experienced Richard Anstiss made his debut in goal and produced a confident, commanding display, although he was never under too much pressure.
In front of him was a defence containing ex-Birmingham Peterborough, Cambridge and Nuneaton man Simon Rea.
The centre-back has come from Redditch United and is training with Brakes to regain fitness and form. He certainly showed flashes of professional class against the Bees' speedy front line.
Mykel Beckley and Shay Morgan were using their pace at the other end, although genuine chances were few and far between. Much of what Brakes did create came through Towers on the right flank.
Cadden introduced Corbett and Mark Bellingham in the closing stages, keen to avoid extra-time. The plan worked perfectly as Corbett struck his eighth goal of the season in the 89th minute.
Brakes: Richard Anstiss, Jamie Towers, Neil Stacey, Simon Rea, Ryan Parisi, Glenn Webb, Karl Fellows, Stuart Herlihy, Josh Blake (capt), Mykel Beckley, Shay Morgan. Substitutes used: Martin Hier, Mark Bellingham, Luke Corbett. Att: 168.
