RACING Club Warwick slumped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Massey Ferguson in their first league fixture of 2010.
Steve Brandl returned to the starting line-up alongside recently appointed captain Phil Daly and it was Brandl who had a major say in the outcome of the game, putting Massey 2-0 up with an own goal after the visitors had taken the lead with a deflec
ted shot.
Racing had chances to get back into it with an unmarked Neale Perry failing to find the target from six yards and strike partner Scott Easterlow spurning two equally presentable chances.
Despite the defeat, manager Ryan Cranton remains upbeat.
"It's not all doom and gloom," said Cranton. "While the first half was disappointing, we played better in the second and it could have been a different story if we had taken our chances.
"We conceded from a deflected shot and an unfortunate own goal and from that aspect we were unlucky.
"There were several periods of the game when we got the ball down and kept possession well. The passing and movement were excellent, it was just the final ball that wasn't good enough."
Lewis Jarrett is Cranton's only injury concern ahead of tomorrow's visit of Walsall Wood (3pm), with the youngster nursing a thigh strain.
