League champions Railway Inn B beat Landlords Cup winners St Patrick's Club A 6-5 to lift the inaugural Sunny Dhillon Challenge Cup at the Wheatsheaf in Tachbrook Road.

Railway's John Burke beat Robbie Butterworth in the deciding frame after an excellent night of camerarderie and banter - a fitting tribute.

The 25-year-old Radford Semele resident, who played pool for the Wheatsheaf and Jet pubs, was also a keen footballer. He was found dead at his home in the village in February after suffering a blood clot on the lungs.

The league's new Community Shield-style event will be staged in his memory every year and the Blackball Sunday League and Leamington Thursday League singles events will be re-named in tribute this season.

This was the first of many tributes planned by Sunny Dhillon's pool friends. Radford Sports & Social Club has entered a Thursday League team in his name.

Sunny's brother Nick and Uncle Garinder both attended last week's match. The former said: "Sunny loved all sport, with football and pool, most definately his favourites."

"He loved his pool from a very young age - so young he was in nappies when he used to carry a cue around his Uncle Garinder's table, once wetting the cloth when he sat on the table nappy-less!"
