Richard Powell of the Half Crown Petanque Club in Stockton and Jack Linstead of the Warwick club are to play for England.
The pair will appear in the Home Nations tournament in Dartford, Kent over the weekend of August 16-17.

In a qualifying tournament also held in Dartford last weekend the pair joined forces with Brian Stote of Coventry to take on 31 other triples teams from around the country, including current and previous England internationals, over five rounds of competition.

Powell, Linstead and Stote, who all play for the West Midlands regional team, faced a Chiltern region side in round one which contained Ben Gallimore, one of this year's England world championship players, but they won a close game 13-11.

They lost their second round game against an experienced side from Kent but stormed back to beat another Chiltern side featuring world cup man Steve Zimmermanan 13-7, despite being 0-7 down after just two ends.

In round four they were drawn against a side from Kent containing two England Junior internationals but were convincing winners 13-4.

After a long wait for the draw for the final round to be made they were matches with a strong local side who had also recorded three wins, making it a winner-takes-all match.

The Midlands trio raced to a 9-0 lead with some inspired pointing from Stote and Powell combined with clinical shooting from Linstead.

But just as the finishing line came into view nerves seemed to take over and the London trio fought back.

At 9-9 the Midlanders finally got a break when the London shooter missed consecutive boules for the first time in the match. Powell's point and a shot from Linstead gave them an 11-9 lead.

Stote's next lead point was perfectly placed just in front of the jack and after two more missed shots from the London shooter and another accurate point from Powell the Midlands side gained the win they needed.

They eventually qualified in sixth place and will join an eight-team England squad.
