Ryan Cranton says he faces a tough task to trim his squad down to 20 after several fringe players impressed in Racing Club's opening friendly at Leicestershire Senior League side Desford.
"I wanted the opportunity to see the players in a match situation and a few surprised me," said Cranton, who took a squad of 24 to Kirkby Road.

"A few I had doubts about performed well and it has made my job even harder to cut the squad down."

Andy Laverock scored The Racers goal as they went down to a 2-1 defeat in a match split into three periods of 30 minutes.

However, Cranton says the result was unimportant, despite his players frustrations at Desford's winning goal.

"From a player's point of view, you always want to win games.

"The second goal they're not happy about. The lads feel cheated. There was a blatant handball in the run-up to the goal, though it was a poor goal to concede."
