Garden Organic Ryton must have one of the silliest names around.
Previously called Ryton Gardens, it was re-named, presumably, to give it a sexier image along the lines of 'Team England' and, my personal favourite, 'Dogs Trust Kenilworth'.

But it's hard to comprehend how the attraction could have had an image problem because it's well worth a visit.

Located just off the A45 between Wolston and Ryton, it boasts more than 30 different gardens to explore on themes such as naturalistic planting, growth therapy and paradise. It's a pleasant walk around them and will occupy you for a relaxing couple of hours.

Of particular interest is the recently-completed biodynamic garden, opened last July. It's pretty groovy and will get even better when the plants have grown a bit more.

For the younger visitor, the children's garden has some sturdy outdoor musical instruments and a wendy house, and there's a fantastically large mound to climb up and down (the safety notice said you shouldn't run up it or take short cuts. We did both).

Inside, there's a shop with a wide-range of organic products, and the Vegetable Kingdom interactive exhibit is great for children – buttons to press and games to play.

Chill out in the café at the end of your visit and you will have enjoyed a pleasant half-day. Adult entry was £6 with children going in for £3. John Howes

Verdict: Relax and unwind.
