More time may be made available to change proposals on where 10,800 new homes should be built around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth.
Warwick and Leamington MP James Plaskitt has promised to support Warwick District Council's request for more time after residents, councillors and the MP strongly opposed plans drawn up by officials.

The proposals, requested as part of regional pl
anning strategy, could lead to more than 4,000 homes being built on fields around Whitnash, Warwick Gates and Warwick by 2026, and also included overspill for Coventry near Finham.

The authority fears being penalised for missing previously agreed deadlines, but Mr Plaskitt (Lab) has asked the Government Office of the West Midlands to allow the council leeway to make revisions.

When Mr Plaskitt asked Communities Secretary John Denham to consider the request in Parliament on Wednesday he was told some further time was available.

Mr Plaskitt said: "The council's preferred options clearly do not carry local support. They need to reconsider. I accept that this puts pressure on the timetable, but these are big decisions. It is essential to get them right.

"I am pressing our case both with senior regional officials and with the Secretary of State. I am getting encouraging responses.

"When I meet with the senior directors of this process in Birmingham next week, I will be pushing for a sympathetic hearing for our case."
