Children and adults in Leamington went bananas to support the Fairtrade Foundation by eating the yellow fruit for a record attempt.
The event, in which more than 400,000 people across the UK each ate a Fairtrade banana to set an unofficial world record, was part of a fortnight of national events to March 8 to support the sale of ethically-traded goods.

Pupils and teachers at both Westgate and St Paul's primary schools and staff at Barrie Johns greengrocer's in Bedford Street got involved on Friday.

The shop supplies a range of Fairtrade foods, including sweets and pasta, and gave away 226 bananas during the weekend.

Carol Johns, who donned a banana suit for the event, said: "Hopefully we have helped set a world record. It was good fun and I hope it might encourage more people to buy these goods."

Leamington was awarded Fairtrade status in 2006 and the campaign is managed by a group of volunteers with the support of the town council.
