Visiting the grave of a loved one can be distressing enough, but vandals are making the experience harder for one Romany gypsy family.
Debbie Gaskin, 47, was distraught after flowers and decorations on her sister's grave at Leamington Cemetery in Brunswick Street went missing this month.

Miss Gaskin's 50-year-old sister Violet died seven years ago after she was run over by her brother at the Ryton-on-Dunsmore caravan park where they lived.

Miss Gaskin, who still lives at the Woodside caravan park, says adorning the grave with flowers is one way she and her sister's husband and sons have tried to come to terms with their loss.

She said: "Violet lived for her family, she was a true mother and sister. I want those flowers there - what else can we give her?

"It's just destroying my life, people have no right to take things off of her grave and I want to know why they are doing it. Her sons have also put things on there and when they see they're gone it tears them apart."

Objects - including plates showing images of Mary and Jesus - have been taken from the grave on number of occasions.

The last theft of pots of flowers and plants and other trinkets was between July 1 and July 3.

Miss Gaskin added: "We want her grave to be left alone. I have spoken to other people at the cemetery who have similar problems so don't think we are the only ones who have had things stolen.

"I called the police when it happened and if anyone knows who is doing it they should contact the police."

Violet Gaskin was killed when her brother Henry Gaskin drove into her on June 21, 2001, while his nine-year-old son was in the car.

She was dragged a short distance by the vehicle, suffered 20 broken ribs and died in Warwick Hospital later that day.

Mr Gaskin was jailed for eight years for manslaughter and disqualified from driving for ten years.

Anyone with information on the vandalism can contact Leamington police on 415000.
