A man accused of shooting a village neighbour with a shotgun is unlikely to stand trial until December.

John Wing, 25, of Leam Road, pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to the attempted murder of 41-year-old Stephen Mold, during an incident on January 28.

Wing also denied possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and having a prohibited weapon, thought to be a Taser-type stun device.

The case was adjourned for trial, which is expected to last "five-plus days", said prosecutor Shenaz Muzaffer.

But she told the court the next available date for the trial was the beginning of December, unless it was possible to find a judge at another court who could hear the case before then.

Wing was remanded in custody, and Judge Richard Griffith-Jones extended the period he could be held on remand until December.

During an earlier hearing, the court was told by Neil Bannister, then prosecuting: "The allegation concerns the shooting of Mr Mold, allegedly by the defendant, at seven o'clock in the evening with a small-sized shotgun which is yet to be recovered."

It was also said that following the alleged shooting in Southam Crescent, Lighthorne Heath, the police found a prohibited weapon, a Tazer, at Wing's home.

"He has accepted he took the shotgun to challenge Mr Mold, and claims that the shotgun was accidentally discharged," said Mr Bannister.

After the shooting Mr Mold was rushed to University Hospital in Coventry, where he was later said to be 'stable' and his injuries were described as not life-threatening.
