Staff at the Holiday Inn in Ryton-on-Dunsmore are among thousands of groups and individuals across the region who have signed up to take part in this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Committing to taking part in the campaign for the second year running, the eight-strong team from the hotel branch will be baking their own treats for the event, which takes place at the hotel in London Road, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, on Friday September 28 from 10am to noon. Coffee and tea will also be on sale.

Ian Brown, sales manager for Leamington and Ryton, said: “We’re hoping that many of our corporate guests and members of the public will come along.

“The charity is close to all our hearts as unfortunately all of us have been affected by cancer in some way or another. It’s a great cause and if we can help - even if we only raise £50 - we want to do all we can to do so.”

Anyone can register to hold a coffee morning or alternative fundraising event as part of the campaign. The official coffee morning day is on September 26, but people can still hold an event on a different date.

Last year, 154,000 people signed up, raising a record £20 million. The charity says there are currently two million people living with cancer in the UK and by 2030, there will be four million. The funds raised through the coffee morning campaign will go towards the support and services the charity provides to these people.
