Warwick mayor says we all have ‘responsibility’

THE mayor of Warwick, Elizabeth Higgins, is hoping as many people as possible will join her to mark National Holocaust Remembrance Day on Sunday, January 27.

Cllr Higgins, has agreed to lay a wreath on behalf of the town, at the war memorial in Church Street at 11.40am.

She said: “Genocide is not limited to the distant past, as the murder and oppression of the people of Sudan and Iraq show so clearly.

“I will be laying this wreath in rememberance of not only the millions who died at the hands of the Nazi regime but also in memory of the brutal oppression of people in Cambodia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Rwanda, Kosova and Darfur.

“I hope people will feel able to join me at this short service because we all have a responsibility to resist the evils of racism, xenophobia and religious bigotry.”
