Rampaging Vikings will be aiming to plunder plenty of charity donations for the third year running when they take to the water for the Leamington Rotary Raft Race.
Victor’s Vikings are one of the teams who will be paddling down the river Leam and Avon on a makeshift raft as part of the Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa’s annual fundraising event on Saturday June 14 .
While raising funds for club causes the horned-helmeted team will also be supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of fundraisier Julie Wall’s grandfather Victor who died of the disease in 2004.
Mrs Wall said: “We have entered the Raft race for the last three years and have raised around £1,000.
“Our raft is built, maintained and transported by my dad Philip Rawlings and captained by my husband Kevin Wall.
“Kev will organise a team of willing ‘rowers’ - some have done all the races with us, some are fresh this year.
“My husband is competitive though and has first place in his sights. They are talking tactics.”
The three-mile raft race starts at Jephson Gardens at 12.45pm and ends at Myton Fields in Warwick.
Trophies for fundraising and the best design rafts are up for grabs.
