Tables turn on Kineton sheep shearer who is shedding locks for cancer cause

Andy Tuffen, who has also been a parish councillor in Kineton for 25 years, felt moved to do what he could for Macmillan Cancer Support after a health scare of his own.

An x-ray showed that Andy had a shadow on his lung and he very quickly underwent a CT scan on his lungs and liver as well as a bronchoscopy. He said: “I was called in for results and found out that the damage was from some past trauma to my lung. I was lucky and walked away from hospital without a diagnosis of cancer. This made me realise how different results that day could have been life-changing for myself and my family.

“I am going back to see the consultant for another x-ray and check-up, but I feel confident that things will not have changed.

“I feel that I want to help those who have not been so lucky as me.”

So the sheep farmer and former lecturer at Moreton Morrell Agricultural College, who now keeps more than 300 sheep, is having his head and mustache shaved, along with his son James, a fellow sheep shearer, who has committed to waving goodbye to his hair to support his dad. The pair have already raised more than £600 for the charity, but are hoping to raise more.
