A Co-operative society which has made a contribution to communities in Warwickshire is to be presented with an award by the Queen in recognition of its work.
The Midcounties Co-operative is one of 12 companies to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
The member-owned society has received the award because of an energy-saving and waste recycling initiative which has saved £1 million.
Ben Reid, Midcounties Co-operative chief executive, said: “We’re proud that our social, environmental and community achievements have been recognised. We have a wide portfolio of businesses which provide essential services to the communities we serve. As the society has grown, our sustainable practices have evolved and now benefit an even larger community.”
The Queen’s Award will be presented in July. The company has also previously been recognised by the Carbon Trust for reducing emissions.
