Slideshow: Time rolled back for Regency and Victorian events in Leamington

Champagne, Leamingon spa water, beef stew and bread and butter pudding were among the Regency-themed dishes tasted by guests at the second Regency Ball at the Pump Room in Leamington last Friday - 50 years after the first one.

The event was organised as part of Heritage Matters’ Leamington Looks Back festival, which also held a Victorian Sunday at the Pump Room Gardens on Sunday.

Anne Warren of Heritage Matter said: “The costumes people wore at the ball were fabulous - people really did look the part. The venue is so beautiful.”

Among the guests at the ball were Warwick town crier Graham Sutherland and his wife Maureen - who still have fond memories of attending the first Regency ball in 1964.

And around 300 people enjoyed Punch and Judy and magic lantern shows at the Victorian Sunday, while people also took their own picnics to eat while listening to Victorian music by the Dunchurch Band.
