BIG-hearted builders have helped youngsters to set wheels in motion whatever the weather at Round Oak School.

After the recent spell of heavy rain, pupils at the school in Brittain Lane had struggled to reach their outdoor play area.

The grassy area that stood between the children and their swings became wet and muddy, making wheelchair access difficult and causing the youngsters to traipse mud back into classrooms.

Hearing of the problem, bosses at Sainsbury’s at Leamington Shopping Park asked the contractor which had been refitting its store Grovers and Careys to lay a pathway from the playground to the swings.

Tom Kirkby, Sainsbury’s project manager, said: “When we refurbish our stores, we work closely with our contractors so that they too can join us in supporting the communities we serve.

“The work we have been carrying out to spruce up the store provided a great opportunity for Grovers and Careys to do this and build on the charitable work our store colleagues do for Round Oak School.”

Jane Naylor, Round Oak’s headteacher, said the staff and children were delighted with the work which means that all of the facilities at the school are fully accessible to children who can take part in all activities.
