Warwickshire Police are aiming to build on the experience and success of neighbouring forces by setting up a unit which will be based at Warwickshire College from September.

The initiative has been launched by Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball, who said: “I’m delighted to be able to provide funding for this scheme in Warwickshire. Young people-both boys and girls-will have the opportunity to be part of an excellent police force and be able to learn many valuable skills which will help them in their future careers, whatever path they choose to follow.

“We have thousands of excellent young people in Warwickshire and I’m keen both to tap into their talents and to give them opportunities to counteract some of the negativity sometimes unfairly attached to the overwhelming majority of them.”

The cadets will meet on Thursdays from 6pm to 9pm and follow a structured two-year programme which will include studying for a Level 2 qualification in leadership and management from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), learning drill, hearing talks from members of the police family and helping with community projects.

Applications are open to all young people in Warwickshire who are in school year 11.
