Old Leamingtonians get ready for sixth Rugby For Heroes charity festival

For the sixth year running Old Leamingtonians RFC will host the Rugby for Heroes weekend festival of sport, music and fun in aid of service charities.

In the last five years the event has raised more than £30,000 and this year OLRFC Rugby for Heroes will be on May 16-18.

All profits generated will be donated to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Royal British Legion and 353, a charitable trust set up by the family of Private Conrad Lewis.

A member of the Parachute Regiment, 22-year-old Conrad, of Claverdon, was killed by a sniper in Afghanistan in February 2011. The weekend will include live music, a beer festival,cheerleaders, raffles, the Sambassadors of Grove, a remembrance service and air displays – last year the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flew over the OLRFC ground in Bericote Road.

There will also be lots of rugby and other clubs have been encouraged to take part by entering teams.

Club chairman, Richard Wormell, said: “We thank all the sponsors for their generous support. I am looking forward to an entertaining weekend of rugby, music and fun.”

A weekend ticket costs £15 and is free for under-18s. Day passes cost £10 for the Friday night, Saturday is £8 and Sunday costs £5.

Camping is available on site at £10 per person for the weekend or £20 per person for caravans and motor homes.

Senior male and female rugby team registration fees are £100 per team before tomorrow (Saturday) and £150 after that.

Those who wants to register to take part in some way or to bring a team to play can go to the festival registration page on www.rugbyforheroes.org.

The University of Warwick-based Unitemps is the lead sponsor and others include Akuma Sports, Bespoke Wheels, Chapter, Equiniti Paymaster and Liquidblu.
