Nando’s in Leamington has been granted permission for its outdoor seating area to be used by customers until 9pm.

The restaurant in Livery Street, part of the well-known chain which specialises in chicken dishes, had previously been given permission to have its outdoor seating area open until 7.30pm - in line with the rules for other premises in the town’s ‘Restaurant Quarter’.

But Warwick District Council’s planning committee has since granted permission for Unit 3 and Turtle Bay, also in Livery Street, to extend their outdoor seating times by 90 minutes.

Cllr John Knight of Leamington Town Council spoke against the application, which was put before the planning committee at Leamington Town Hall last night (Tuesday).

He raised concerns that applications such as this could lead to the area becoming a nighttime eating and drinking street which conflicted with the needs of people living in the apartments which overlook the street and nearby.

The council’s environmental health department, which requested the hours to be restricted to 9pm, asked for any activities in the seating area to be “carefully managed” to prevent noise disturbance.

The council also received 13 objections which raised concerns about noise, smells. smoking and the suitability of outdoor seating in a residential area.
