Myton’s Warwick hospice opens new accommodation for families

Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White declared the building, which houses two self-contained bedrooms, open at the summer fete on July 20.

Speaking at the event, he said: “I would like to pay tribute to the magnificent team at the Myton Hospices for the wonderful level of care they provide. This new accommodation will provide families with a very private space to be together through their visits.

“A great deal of attention has been paid to the design in line with the professionalism and understanding of people’s needs for which Myton is renowned. It was an honour to be invited to the opening.”

The two rooms, which stand on stilts in the hospice grounds, include sofas, flat screen televisions, bathrooms and balconies overlooking neighbouring fields. Staff say they are already providing a much-needed haven for families with loved ones staying at Myton.

The rooms were funded by a £442,000 Department of Health grant.

Myton’s chief executive Kate Lee said: “Having a loved one at Myton can be a very distressing time and this is often made worse for families and friends who do not live locally and are faced with long journeys to and from our hospices. When patients are very poorly, their families often don’t feel able to leave them.

“This is why it is vital for us to provide a comfortable place for them to rest, safe in the knowledge that our nursing teams will fetch them if they are needed.”

The charity is currently taking registrations for its annual fundraising Moonlight Walk, which takes place from Warwick Castle on Saturday September 6. To find out more and register, visit www.mytonhospice.org
