‘My waters broke in the supermarket’s freezer aisle’
New mum Joanne Ceeney's waters broke in Asda's Leamington store on May 23. On Wednesday Asda gave her a bouquet and 50 worth of baby goods. Joanne and her baby Lewis are seen receiving the items from Deputy Store Manager John O'Meara and Community Life Champion Simon Milligan. A FINAL shopping trip for an expectant mum turned out to bear unexpected gifts - in more ways than one.
Joanne Ceeney, of Oaks Road in Kenilworth, was shopping with her best friend Nicola Hooper at Asda in Sydenham two days before her baby was due.
She was in the freezer aisle when she felt an unusual sensation and realised her waters were breaking.
Fortunately her friend was on hand to pay for the shopping while her own daughter Kirsty stayed with Joanne, who was taken to Warwick Hospital, where she gave birth to her son Lewis the next morning.
She said: “I was expecting him to be late like most first babies are. It was a bit of a surprise.
“I must admit I panicked a bit but only because I was in the middle of Asda. I would have been less panicked if I was safe at home.”
The unusual location turned out to be a blessing; Joanne was invited back to the shop last week to be presented with a bunch of flowers and a box of baby products.
Joanne added: “I’m really pleased. It will all come in handy - you need plenty of stuff when you have a baby.”
