Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White and Glen Burley, chief executive of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, went on a virtual cycle ride at Warwick Hospital on Friday as part of Workout at Work Day.

They were joined by staff from across the trust taking on the challenge and encouraging other staff, patients and visitors to guess their final ‘destination’.

The Kenilworth-based Mike Vaughan Cycles also provided demonstration bicycles for Warwick Hospital staff to have a go on, while physiotherapists spent time visiting office-based staff to show them exercises that can be done while sitting at a desk.

The trust’s deputy physiotherapy manager Carol Credgington said: “Being a healthcare organisation, we understand the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise. Workout at Work Day is a great way for us to remind our staff of this.

“We’re really pleased that our chief executive took an active part in the day and was joined by local MP Chris White. All the staff enjoyed seeing them battling it out in the cycling challenge.”

Now in its fourth year, Workout at Work Day is a Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s initiative that aims to encourage employees to avoid poor work habits and take more exercise. The day also aimed to highlight to employers the benefits of having a fitter and healthier workforce.
