Woodloes Co-op wins in bid for longer hours
CONCERNS about noise have failed to stop a supermarket’s bid for longer opening hours in a Warwick estate.
Warwick District Council’s planning committee last week voted to allow Co-operative Society to change the opening hours of its forthcoming shop next to the Woodloes Tavern in Woodloes Park.
When plans were approved in May, councillors allowed opening hours of 8am to 10pm from Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 6pm on Sundays, but the company applied to open from 7am on Mondays to Saturdays and from 8am to 10pm on Sundays, in line with other branches.
Representing Co-op, Richard Dunnett cited Government guidelines, saying a convenience store was a way to foster and deliver sustainable development.
Ward councillor Glenn Williams (Con, Warwick North) raised concerns about noise from staff coming and going and questioned how the supermarket could invest in the pub, but also sell cheap alcohol in the evenings.
