Warwick to benefit from Portas Pilot spin-off

WARWICK town centre could benefit from a share of a £1 million fund to boost trade in the nation’s high streets.

The town’s Town Team hax been named by local growth minister Mark Prisk MP as one of the Government’s Town Team partners, with a chance of winning part of the High Street X-fund, a spin-off from the Portas Pilot scheme.

The partners scheme involves help from the Government as well as advice and support from leading retail experts.

There will be a national event to be held in Birmingham tomorrow (Wednesday) by the Association of Town Centre Management.

Mr Prisk said the extra support would help the teams to strengthen their leadership on the ground, and enable them to try new ideas on their high streets to make them more attractive and competitive

Warwick missed out on becoming one of the Portas Pilots, but the team behind the bid will now receive backing from a multi-million pound support programme to help put key elements of their plans into action.

They will also have access to an advice line and advisers managed by the Association of Town Centre Management, as well as information events,

direct mentoring and visits from a range of retail experts.

There will also be regular meetings with other Town Teams to share lessons learned, tips and ideas; and an online community to receive advice and information from retail experts.

On 23 October 2012, Mark Prisk announced that over 300 Town Teams had applied to become Town Team partners. A list of Town Team Partners is available below.
