AS veterans from Warwickshire prepared to take their petition to save the county battalion to the Government, current and former members of the Armed Forces gathered in Warwick for an annual regimental service on Sunday.

The Rector, the Rev Dr Vaughan Roberts, conducted the service, which took place at St Mary’s church, while also present were Colonel Peter Merriman, the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire Martin Dunne, the High Sheriff Robert Waley-Cohen, Warwickshire Police’s Chief Constable Andy Parker, and Warwick mayor Cllr Elizabeth Higgins.

After the service, members of the Regimental Association, the Warwickshire Band, the Colour Party and other military representatives took part in a march past through the town.

On Thursday, veterans and families of soldiers killed in action with the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, which was formed in Warwickshire, took part in a march outside Parliament in London to urge MPs to do what they could to reverse the Government’s decision to scrap the regiment.
