Vomiting bug at Warwick Hospital: Update November 26

NO visitors are being permitted to enter Warwick Hospital due to another outbreak of the vomiting bug norovirus.

The exceptions to this are on the maternity wards, special baby care unit, Magregor (children’s) ward and the intensive therapy unit, where visitors will be allowed in.

In circumstances where there are compassionate grounds where the patient is seriously ill, people intending to visit should call the ward manager to discuss arrangements.

Norovirus is a seasonal viral infection which causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It is very infectious and often occurs in outbreaks in communities such as schools, institutions and families. It can be brought into hospitals and cause outbreaks on wards.

The virus spread rapidly as a result of contact between individuals, so anyone who has had or been in contact with someone who has had diarrhoea and vomiting within the last 48 hours will be infectious and should stay away from the hospital. Those who are suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting should stay at home and drink plenty of fluids.
