Volunteers buy new eye care equipment for Warwick Hospital

EYE care at Warwick Hospital will be improved, thanks to the fundraising efforts of volunteers.

Members of the League of Friends of Warwick Hospital raised the £79,000 needed to buy the ophthalmology department a Pascal laser, which is used to treat patients with damage to their retina.

The laser treatment helps to seal new blood vessels and prevent bleeding in the eye, which causes a loss of vision.

The laser is particularly effective in treatment young patients with the condition as it can be used as treatment to prevent loss of vision.

Use of the laser also saves time as treatment takes just five minutets – compared to 45 without it – and it is also much less painful for the patient.

Uma Thakur, ophthalmology associate specialist at the hospital, said: “I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the League of Friends for donating this piece of equipment. It has already made a significant difference to the treatment of our patients.”
