Town roads to be dug up again

COMPLAINTS about the disastrous effect on town trading of recent roadworks in the centre of Warwick are likely to surface again as a “technical design issue” means parts of Jury Street and High Street is being dug up once again.

The delayed work, which was said to have been completed without a proper disabled audit, led to Warwick becoming a virtual no-go place for shoppers and, once it seemed complete, led to the Courier’s campaign to get people back into the town.

Monica Fogarty, the county’s strategic director for communities, said: “I apologise we did not get it right first time and are having to come back to do remedial works. The improvements are not a result of a construction problem and McVeigh, the contractors, have been very supportive. They will be on site until August 10 to temporarily correct a technical design issue with the raised parts of the road.”
