Thief steals cash from teenager in Leamington

A TEENAGER had cash stolen from him just after he withdrew it from an ATM in Leamington on Monday.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident, which occurred in Victoria Terrace at around 8pm.

The 19-year-old man was approached from behind by another man, who took the cash as it was dispensed and then told the victim to withdraw some more, which he did.

The victim called for the help of a passer-by, at which point the thief made off across the road to the right of All Saints’ church towards Church Street.

The offender is described as white, aged between 40 and 45, 5ft 7ins tall, stocky and with a weathered face and dark stubble. He was wearing a dark blue hooded top with the hood up and a red and white scarf covering his face below the nose.

The passer-by, who was walking towards the Parade, is described as an Asian man, around 30 years old, 6ft tall, of slim build and wearing a dark coat and red beanie hat.

Det Sgt Carl Buckley would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information which would help him with his inquiries.

Officers are reminding people to be careful when when withdrawing cash from a machine and to be aware of anyone around them. If it appears that someone is watching, people should move on to another machine, or wait until the person watching has gone. People should always cover they keypad when typing in their PIN number.
