Stunning Aylesford production
STUDENTS of Aylesford School left audiences in tears with their modern take on a Romeo and Juliet story entitled Noughts and Crosses.
Some 37 were in the cast, including star-crossed lovers Anoosha Babu, who played Sephy, and Ronnie Bushell as Callum, in the leading roles, plus a full back-stage crew.
Head of drama Kirsten Watson said the four-night production, using The Dream Factory stage in the school grounds, was both absorbing and emotionally-charged.
The story by Malorie Blackman was adapted by the RSC five years ago and centres on a world where black people are the governing body with all the powers while their white counterparts are prevented form getting ahead.
Mrs Watson said; “This was fantastically well done by our students aged between 13 and 18. At the end of each performance audiences were in tears.”
● The drama department at the school in Shelley Avenue is starting rehearsals for a play written by the students themselves entitled A Stroke Of Insight.
This will run for three nights, again in The Dream Factory, starting on March 9. Proceeds from ticket sales will be in memory of former Aylesford pupil Matt Davis and the Brain Cancer Foundation set up in his name.
