Stolen postbox will be replaced ‘as soon as posible’

ROYAL Mail has said it will replace the postbox which was stolen from Weston-under-Wetherley last week and has urged witnesses to the theft to come forward.

The small red Victorian postbox was stolen from the junction of Rugby Road and St Michaels Close some time between 4pm on Wednesday October 17 and 4pm on Thursday October 18.

Villagers suspect it was stolen to be sold as scrap metal and elderly residents have been left without a way of posting their letters.

Val Boden, a spokeswoman for Royal Mail, said: “The recent theft of a postbox in the village of Weston-Under-Wetherley has been reported to police and we would urge anyone with information about this wanton theft to contact the police. We will be restoring the box to its original location as soon as possible and apologise to customers for the inconvenience. The nearest postboxes are located at Hunningham and Eathorpe.”

Warwickshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and to the theft of a postbox in Temple Grafton near Stratford sometime between Saturday September 29 and Tuesday October 2.
