Snow volunteers

DEDICATED volunteers have taken time out to provide support to health and ambulance services across south Warwickshire during the past week in snowy and icy conditions.

Red Cross volunteers stepped up in 4x4 vehicles - one of which was lent to them by the Gaydon-based Land Rover - to drive nurses to patients and patients to hospital.

Nick Lighton, the charity’s senior service manager for emergency response, said: “The Red Cross is always proud to work in partnership with the NHS and ambulance service. We help people in a crisis so this type of work is exactly what we are here for.”

Glen Burley, chief executive of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to the Red Cross for supporting our staff. Their support has enabled our dedicated clinical teams to continue to deliver care to patients and it is fantastic to know they are on hand if the weather worsens.”
