BARFORD man Mathew Partridge has raised more than £500 for Parkinson’s UK after donning a nurse’s uniform and taking part in the Great North Run in Newcastle.

Matthew, aged 21, and his friend Sarah Morgan, also 21, joined the thousands of runners, including a team of 227 who were specially raising money for Parkinson’s, which affects some four million people in the UK.

Matthew said: “Our team aims to raise over £90,000 in sponsorship for this degenerative disease because the charity is dependent on donations and we know all the money raised will go towards research into finding a cure as well as improving life for those affected.”

Matthew managed to complete the 13.1 mile challenge in two hours ten minutes.

The charity, which offers a free confidential helpline, funds specialist nurses and brings families together in groups.
