Republic in administration

ANOTHER major high street chain with a store in Leamington has gone into administration.

Leeds-based clothing retailer Republic, which has a large unit in the Royal Priors, has announced that it has had appointed accountants from Ernst & Young to take over running of the firm.

Republic employs about 2,500 staff and has 120 stores.

The company follows in the footsteps of a number of other high street stalwarts including Jessops, which recently closed its shop in the Parade, Blockbuster, which has a branch in Myton Road and HMV, which is due to close its shop next door to Republic’s Leamington branch.

Republic will continue to be open for business, with the administrators hoping to sell it as a going concern.
