Police investigating alleged sexual assault near Wellesbourne
Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault near Oakley Wood Crematorium in Wellesbourne.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday.
A woman, who is in her 20s and from the Northampton area, got into what she believed to be a taxi from outside Argos in Leamington between midnight and 1am, and asked the driver to take her to Wellesbourne.
There were already three men, said to be of Asian appearance, in the vehicle and it is alleged that when the car stopped near to the crematorium they sexually assaulted the woman and drove off.
Investigators sealed off the area around the incident for forensic examinations to take place on Saturday.
Insp Steve Beard said: “I would like to thank members of the public for their co-operation this morning when we had to refuse them access to the crematorium and woods.
“The cordon has now been lifted from that location and anyone wishing to visit the crematorium or the woods is now free to do so.”
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity near Argos between midnight and 1am on June 23, particularly a lone woman getting into a dark car which contained three Asian men.
