Old Town bakery found guilty of poor hygiene
A BAKERY director in Leamington’s Old Town is more than £5,000 out of pocket after failing to meet food hygiene standards.
Arek Kulokowski, director of JCK Bakery - which trades as Smakus in High Street - was fined £2,700 and ordered to pay £2,630 after being found guilty of nine food hygiene offences at Warwickshire Justice Centre in Leamington.
The legal proceedings were brought by Warwick District Council after inspectors found that, among other offences, the company had failed to ensure that the premises were kept clean, an adequate number of basins were available for staff to wash their hands away from the area for washing food and that there was a proper drainage system in place.
Rob Chapleo, divisional environmental health officer at the council, said: “Food business operators in Warwick district must ask for the advice of environmental health before they start trading. Inspectors will always give simple and straightforward help. If the operators follow those instructions, they will not be brought before the courts.”
