Man charged over head-stabbing at Leamington takeaway

A TEENAGER has been charged over an incident in which a man was stabbed in the head at a Leamington takeaway restaurant on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old from Rugby was arrested on Thursday following the incident and on Friday was charged with wounding with intent and with possessing a knife, blade or sharp pointed article in a public place. He is due to appear before magistrates tomorrow (Saturday).

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which occurred at Viallis Restaurant in Victoria Terrace at 2.30am on Wednesday morning.

It is believed that a group of five people had been arguing with staff. They then turned their attention to a man in his 30s and his friend and, during an altercation, the man was stabbed in the head with an unknown instrument.

The man was ambulance staff and taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment to a five-inch gash to the top of his head.

The five people are believed to have got into a taxi following the incident and enquiries are ongoing to try and identify this group and the offender who carried out the assault.

Any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the assault who believes they may have seen the incident or these men getting into a taxi after the assault are asked to call police on 684297 or voicemail 11636.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
