Lighting the way - your guide to the Olympic torch route

A PIECE of sporting history will be coming to Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth tomorrow (Saturday).

The Olympic torch will be carried through all three towns on Sunday. Some of the torch bearers are local people who have been specially selected for the honour.

Thousands are expected to line the route to cheer on the runners. There will also be a number of activities taking place including family fun events on Sunday afternoon in St Nicholas Park, Warwick, Pump Room Gardens, Leamington, and Abbey Fields, Kenilworth, which we have featured over the past few weeks.

The torch is scheduled to arrive in Stratford Road, Warwick, at 3.34pm, passing up West Street, where it will stop at 3.39pm, before starting at 4.27pm and progressing along High Street and Jury Street before heading down Castle Hill at 4.36pm and Banbury Road before turning down Myton Road at 4.41pm.

It will reach Leamington station at 4.58pm, going up Lower Avenue and into Spencer Street at 5pm, passing up the Parade and into Clarentdon Avenue at 5.10pm and into Kenilworth Road towards Kenilworth.

The church is due to arrive at St John’s church, Kenilworth at 5.27pm, moving along Warwick Road, The Square and Borrowell Lane before reaching Castle Road at 5.38pm, and then heading along Castle Hill at 5.45pm into High Street, New Street and Coventry Road towards Coventry.

Crowds have been advised to avoid Leamington’s Parade as it will be busy.

There is no parking along the route, even in disabled spaces. All council car parks will be free, but those travelling to use them have been advised to leave plenty of time and to be aware that spaces will fill quickly.

Extra parking will be available at Myton Fields and Warwick Racecourse, and at Waitrose in Kenilworth from 4pm to 7pm.
