Leamington taxi robbery: two men arrested

POLICE officers used social media to track down two men they suspect of stealing a taxi in Leamington.

The incident occurred in Edinburgh Crescent on Tuesday at around 12.50pm. The driver of the taxi was punched before two men drove off in his green Ford Mondeo.

Using Twitter, Facebook and the media to ask for help in finding the car, officers spotted it near Hatton at 3.30pm and it was stopped on the A4177 just before the Charingworth Drive island, where the arrests were made.

The two men, a 31-year-old from Leamington and a 34-year-old from Warwick, are in police custody awaiting questioning.

Any witnesses to the theft of the taxi in Edinburgh Crescent are asked to contact police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
