Latest twist in Racing Club row with council
THE long-running dispute between the trustees of Racing Club Warwick and the district council seems to have taken a new twist as the RAF cadets, who shared the community hall in Hampton Road, have moved out.
Every indication is that the army cadets who also use the premises for training will shortly follow suit.
The council suggest if the cadets have gone - or are going - it is because they are being denied access to the building by members of the Racing club, who take responsibility for making the site secure.
On Tuesday the Courier was told: “Warwick Distrct Council has not been advised by the RAF/Army Cadets that they are leaving their premises at Racing Club Warwick.
“If this is the case then the council would be very disappointed. The council has worked extremely hard to find a resolution to the matter (of the lease) and will contact the RAF/Army Cadets to fully understand their position.”
Andy Cowlard, vice chairman of Racing Club - which attracts some 350 people a week - said: “As far as we understand it the RAF has left and the army is going because they now realise they do not have a valid lease.”
