Historic pub back for sale
THE Cock Horse Inn at Rowington - which failed to sell at auction earlier this month - is set to go under the hammer again at some point in the next few weeks.
Auctioneers Allsops originally suggested a guide price of £400,000 for the freehold pub on Old Warwick Road, which has planning consent to be converted into a four bedroomed house.
But many in the village had hoped to keep the inn, part of which dates back to the 15th century.
Since the summer it has been draped with banners declaring Save Our Pub.
Villager Jackie Hobday, who lives nearby, said: “We think it’s a disgrace that this pub has closed. It is a focal point in our community and should be saved.”
According to the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) pubs were closing at a rate of 16 a week up to last December.
