Fire on M40 between Gaydon and Banbury

A BLAZE on the hard shoulder of the M40 caused delays to traffic heading south on Friday evening.

Police closed one lane of the motorway’s southbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12 and the Highways Agency was called in after a vehicle on the hard shoulder caught fire at around 7pm.

Firefighters from Fenny Compton and Southam spent around one hour dealing with the blaze, which required breathing apparatus and hose reels to put out.
