Find out about sewerage works in Leamington

AS Severn Trent prepares to begin a new wave of sewerage improvement works in Leamington, the company is holding a public exhibition at which people can find out how they will be affected.

The £10 million project is the final phase of the firm’s upgrading of the Victorian sewers in the area and will take place in the south of the town this year.

Severn Trent’s earlier phase caused traffic disruption in and around the town centre for around 18 months between 2011 and 2012, although it was complete ahead of the scheduled date outlined by the company.

The firm’s sernior programme engineer Chris Keys said: “The earlier phases of our work in Leamington have already helped to prevent sewer flooding from affecting the town. The final and largest phase of our plans will make an even bigger difference when it is complete.

“We will be installing 4,000 metres of brand new sewer pipes and we’ll be moving water and gas pipes to allow us to do this.

“We recognise that while these essential improvements take place there may be some disruption, so we’d like the local community to come along to the public exhibition to find out more about our plans and feedback on them.”

He said staff will talk about the planned road closures and diversion routes which will be in place for different phases of the project, adding: “We’ll do our best to include requests and suggestions from customers in our plans.”

Maps and leaflets will also be available.

Staff from NMCNomenca, which is to carry out the work along with Laing O’Rourke and National Grid, will also be at the meeting, which is taking place at Unit 8 of the Creative Railway Arches in Court Street, Leamington, on Friday from 9.30am to 6.30pm and on Saturday from 9.30am to 2pm.

There will be another exhibition held in April and further information is also available onlin at www.stwater.co.uk and www.northmid.co.uk/leamington
