Digging the roads up again

SOME distruption is inevitable to the centre of Warwick on Monday (Feb 25) as work begins on replacing the existing bollards on High Street and Jury Street, which have been constantly knocked over.

The bollards are positioned on the controversial raised platforms across the two adjoining roads, where improvements have been heavily criticised by blind people who want to see the return of a zebra crossing.

County council officers have said the new crossing points need o be in place for about a year before any more changes are considered.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place from soon after the morning rush hour. Contractors say they should be able to complete the job within the day. The date of the work was agreed after consultation with traders, who feel they have suffered badly from past disruptions.
