Difference and greatness debated in Warwick

DOES the greatness of a leader depend on their understanding of the past? This was just one of the topics anaylsed by inspirational pupils from district schools who took part in the first round of the annual Youth Speaks competition organsed by Warwick District Rotary.

Answers to the question of greatness saw a three-strong team of teenagers from King’s High School through to the regional round of the national competition, with Warwick School as runners-up.

Then in the 11-13 category, a team from Kingsley School triumphed with their topic: ‘It’s okay to be different,’ with Myton a close second. Teams also came from Aylesford, entering for the first time, and North Leamington School.

Retired community education chief Alan Bailey, who chaired the judges, said the two winning teams were now through to the regional finals in Atherstone on March 9.
