Delicious spices as Thai festival returns to town centre

DON’T make the mistake of eating before visiting this year’s Thai festival with its 40 stalls - most of them selling different foods and spices in the town’s Market Place.

As well as free samples, visitors on July 15 can expect demonstrations of Thai cooking, dancing and drumming and representatives from the Embassy in London are once again likely to drop in.

Alan Bailey of the Warwick Rotary Club, which organises the event with the support of the district council, said: “This is a free festival although we do encourage visitors to buy one of our raffle tickets because they just might win the free holiday to...where else but Thailand.

“Music will be provided by the Thai Cultural Company and, just as last year, Buddhist monks will be setting up a temple at the top of the square.”

Jackie Crampton, who has also helped with organising, admits: “The mistake I made last year was eating lunch before going into town!

“We expect thousands to come along on the day - the festival is getting so popular it looks like it will become an annual event.

“The thing I personally enjoy is seeing how Thai people living all over the Midlands seem to come along and meet their fellow countrymen and women. They’re such graceful people and create a really happy atmosphere.”
