Chase Meadow - hopes for centre to open next autumn
THE long-awaited community centre for Chase Meadow in Warwick is coming closer to fruition.
Less than a month ago the centre, which will cost just under £1 million, looked doubtful as the district council admitted there was a £200,000 shortfall in funding.
This was despite grants from a number of organisations, including Budbrooke Church and Sport England as part of enthusiastic fundraising by the residents.
But now people living nearby only have to worry about the handover of their roads to the county council so that they can be formally adopted and maintained.
Cllr Moria-Ann Grainger (Con, Warwick North) said: “I’m satisfied to see the start of everyone’s hard work coming to fruition.
“The council has been pleased to assist both financially and with staff time - let’s hope the winter weather doesn’t hinder the build and we can celebrate the opening of the centre in autumn next year.”
Paul Barnes, chairman of the community centre group, said: “There has been a massive amount of work to complete by the group, Budbrooke Church and the district council to get to this point.”
